San Bernardino, CA: Rendezvous Back To Route 66 Gets Bigger & Better

The annual Rendezvous Back to Route 66 car show and cruise keeps getting bigger and better every year. San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Judi Penman and her volunteers did their usual exemplary job, bringing order to the chaos of having more than 1,000 classic cars gather on the streets of downtown San Bernardino for the day.

I make it a habit to photograph this event, looking for something different each time. This year, the student volunteers from San Bernardino Valley College caught my eye, dressed in their distinctive safety yellow t-shirts and looking like bumblebees, as they directed traffic along the cruise route and guided vintage car owners to their assigned spaces.

It’s an event that truly belongs on the streets of downtown San Bernardino, breathing new vitality into an area that for too long has been hit with bad news and economic woes.
