Earth Day 2020: Feels Strange This Year

Earth Day feels strange this year.

In years’ past, when I was working full-time as a photographer at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, there would be a BBQ with displays of an environmentally-conscious nature and a tree-planting to mark the occasion.

During this Coronavirus pandemic, we are mostly housebound, honoring stay at home orders from government officials at the county, state and federal levels. Undeterred, I ventured out to my front yard this morning to make a few photos of the roses blooming there.

While I’ve never really been a rose person, it’s tough not to appreciate this spectacular specimen. I used a 43″ 5-in-1 reflector without any reflective covers to diffuse the sun striking this beautiful bloom, captured with a Nikon full-frame DSLR and a manual focus Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f2.8 AIS lens.
