NORCO, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2011) Portrait of Retired Rear Adm. Allen “Boot” Hill, age 82 of Riverside, at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division to mark Centennial of Naval Aviation. The former skipper of the USS Ranger (CV-61), who was among the Navy’s first jet fighter pilots in Korea, Hill’s first-hand experiences at China Lake and with Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles contributed to a landmark design and reliability analysis by Corona engineers in 1968. While later serving in the Pentagon, Hill organized the first Tactical Training Groups for Atlantic and Pacific aviators at a considerable savings to the Navy and sought funding for the independent assessment work performed at Corona.
